Early Interceptive Orthodontics by Dr Rachel Webster
What is Early Interceptive Orthodontics?
Early interceptive orthodontics is a proactive approach to correcting dental and jaw issues in children, typically between the ages of 6 and 11. This preventive treatment aims to address problems such as misaligned jaws, severely overcrowded or protruding teeth, and harmful oral habits before they become more serious.
Key Features
Timing: Interceptive orthodontics is usually performed when children still have a mix of baby and permanent teeth.
Duration: Treatment typically lasts between 12 to 18 months.
Approach: It focuses on guiding the growth of teeth and jaws, often using simple removable orthodontic appliances.
Benefits
Prevents more severe problems in the future.
Reduces the need for extensive treatment or invasive procedures later in life.
Supports healthier oral development as the child grows.
Can make later orthodontic treatment simpler, quicker, and more effective.

The three steps to better dental health
patient review

I have a phobia of dentists. I have had it since I was very young. I am now 67 years old. Over the years I have visited several dentists who, initially, were understanding and sympathetic. But it didn’t last long. As a result of poor oral hygiene, leading to abscesses, I have lost several teeth. But ten years ago, I was recommended to go to Soar Valley Dental Practice and I’ve never looked back.
At my first appointment, I had a long interview with Faye, the Care Coordinator at the time, who talked me through all my fears and concerns, giving me reassurance all the way. She then sat with me throughout my first consultation with the dentist, Ash, checking with me all the time that I was ok. I felt completely safe.
Since then I have had various procedures including root canal work, extractions and a bridge. I have never hesitated to attend any of my appointments whereas, with previous dentists, I would often phone on the morning of the appointment to cancel, claiming to be “ill”. I have signed up to the Dental Plan which gives me four visits per year; two with my lovely hygienist, Fiona, and two more with both the hygienist and the dentist.
So, as you can probably guess, I recommend Soar Valley Dental Practice most highly. Every member of the staff is friendly, non-judgmental and kind. I always feel safe and, dare I say it, actually look forward to my appointments! I’m going to see friends who care about me and the health of my teeth and mouth.
The plan gives me reduced prices on any treatments that are needed; for example, I recently needed an emergency appointment to repair a broken tooth. Ash saved the tooth and built me a new one which is unnoticeable from the others. The cost saving was very good!
